Youth Substance Abuse Services..."I have been with YSAS
for two years now. I was constantly using alcohol and chroming so I talked
to DHS (The Department of Human Services) and they directed me to YSAS. "I called Directline for some information about my drug use and
I was also in real need of accommodation. They referred me onto YSAS who
helped me by giving me a worker. They also introduced me to their Day
Program and through that I was able to complete my resume on their computers.
YSAS also assisted me took get my learners permit. One thing I really
respect about YSAS is that the people that work there are nice and easy
to talk to" "I've been with YSAS for one year now. I was referred to
them through the Youth Information centre located at the Plaza. Since
then I have accessed their Day Program and the Nurse that works for them
helps me with my health stuff. Through YSAS I have learnt about safe using,
safe sex and how to cook and how to bowl (day program activities). My
favorite times at YSAS was going bowling and getting my nails done." "I like YSAS because they have a Day Program and you can go there
nearly everyday and hang out, do activities. Every week they have something
new, swimming, sailing, and cooking and art stuff. The workers there are
great; they don't judge you and they are always helpful. The Nurse
helped me get through a home-detox and my worker is always there when
I need some advice. Without YSAS my life would be so much more harder
because I'm on my own." "I got sent to YSAS when I got busted selling. I was smoking heaps
back then. I didn't know what to expect, if anything I thought these
guys will probably give me a preaching. It wasn't like that at all.
They helped me understand what drugs were doing to my body and it made
me cut down on how much I smoke (a whole lot). Now I only smoke a couple
of times a month, I got a job, and YSAS is also helping me in getting
my learners. The best thing about YSAS is that they treat you like a person
and make sure you are on the track." |
